Come and study Finnish – free of charge

This training is for women with an immigrant background who are not currently in integration training. It is funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education and organised by the Helsinki Summer University as in-person teaching in Vantaa.

Who is this training for

You can apply if:

  • you are a woman with an immigrant background
  • you are not currently in integration training

Courses are available at different levels – including for complete beginners.

This training is primarily intended for jobseekers living in Vantaa, but this is not a strict requirement. Our customer service will go through your eligibility with you when you get in touch.

How to join

You can’t sign up for the course directly online. Instead, please contact us by phone (+358 20 779 2400) or email (info@hsky.fi), and we’ll find the right course and next steps together.

  1. Get in touch – call or email the Summer University’s customer service.
  2. Eligibility check – customer service reviews your situation and tells you which level and group would suit you. For some levels, a short placement test is also used.
  3. Start the course – once your place is confirmed, you’ll start face-to-face classes at Korso asukastila in Vantaa.

Course levels

You can join one or several levels – our customer service will help you find the right starting level.

Level 1 Getting to know the language

The basics of Finnish and everyday situations, for complete beginners.

Level 2 Putting the language to use

Confidence to use the language, plus first steps in digital and everyday finance skills.

Level 3 Digital skills and wellbeing at work

Deepening language skills, plus workplace wellbeing and online safety skills.

Level 4 Written communication

Writing everyday work-life messages, such as job applications and CVs.

Level 5 Job-seeking skills

Introducing yourself, job interviews, and how workplaces in Finland work.

Practical information

  • Price: free of charge, funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education.
  • Location: Korso asukastila, Korsontie 2, 01450 Vantaa.
  • Format: in-person teaching, supported by independent study.

Start date: the first groups start in September 22nd and 24th
